End of June, the lie on the phone

The summer of 1985 opens on Mike, a door left ajar, and a grandmother who is not sick. The toys, the hill and Hopper's failed speech are covered in the first chapter.

The next morning she calls the Wheelers: “It's 9:32. Where are you?” Mike repeats the excuse. She answers that Hopper was talking about a false alarm. “Do you lie?” Mike: “Friends don't lie.” According to the chapter page, she hangs up, goes into her room and slams the door.

At Melvald's, Hopper gloats to Joyce: “Order… has been… restored.”

Max, the mall, the breakup

Eleven goes to find Max. “Boyfriends lie. All the time.” The advice: if he does not explain, “dump his ass”. Then: “There's more to life than stupid boys.” They head to Starcourt. Eleven: “Too many people. Against the rules.” Max: “You have superpowers. What's the worst that could happen?”

“You've never been shopping before, have you?” Eleven: “How do I know… what I like?” Max: “Until you find something that feels like you.” “Not Hopper. Not Mike. You.” Material Girl, the photo, Steve's cone: they laugh, then run off. The mall song is discussed elsewhere.

At the exit, in front of Mike, Lucas and Will, Max says: “This is her new style.” Mike: “You know she's not allowed to be here.” Max: “What is she, your little pet?” Eleven: “Am I your pet?” “Then why do you treat me like garbage?” “You lie. Why do you lie?” Then: “I dump your ass.” Their story has its own page.

The Void, a game first

That evening Max sleeps at the cabin. Eleven says: “He's my first boyfriend.” Then: “Ex-boyfriend.” Blindfold, radio: they spy on the boys. The boys talk about girls who act “on emotion and not logic”, “a totally different species”. Eleven: “They say we are ‘species’.” A burp, which NME attributes to Mike, then a fart from Lucas, make them laugh. Hopper comes home drunk that same evening: Joyce did not meet him at the restaurant, she is at the teacher's for the magnets. “When I say three inches…” Eleven: “Max wanted to have… a sleepover.”

They start a spin-the-bottle-style game among names, according to the wiki. You hear: “Mr. Wheeler.” “Ugh. Boring.” “Spin again.” “Against the rules?” “We make our own rules.” Then, both of them: “Billy.” In the Void he is sitting and talking to someone: “Don't be afraid.” “It'll be over soon.” “Just stay very still.” A girl screams: “Billy!” The wiki says he turns.

The next day Max talks about “happy screams” and suggests her mother's magazine. At the Hargroves' the tub is full of melted ice: “Ice. It's just ice.” In the bathroom trash, according to the wiki, a belt bag and a whistle, stained with blood. At the town pool an employee recognizes them and says the coworker did not show: “Bailed on me today.” Eleven takes a photo off the staff board. The name he gave is Heather's. From the showers the void opens: “A door. A red door.” She is in a tub of ice. She begs “Help me”, then falls through the bottom.

The house has a red door. Billy: “This… is my sister, Maxine.” Heather offers a cookie. The girls leave. The parents are then drugged and knocked out. The next day: “He seemed wrong.” “Wrong is kind of like his default.” A Wonder Woman comic. In the basement, Eleven: “I closed the gate.” Will wonders whether the shadow ever left. At the pool, Mike admits the lie. Eleven: “What if he's right?” “If I only see you, and I'm a different species than you…” Mike: “Did you spy on me?” Eleven: “I make my own rules.”

From the sauna wall to the window

She throws Billy against a wall to stun him. He breaks the door. She pins him. He strangles her. Mike hits him on the head. She throws him through the wall. He flees. Why the heat, and why the sauna? That page explains it.

At the steel mill Billy confirms it to Heather: “It was her.” He adds that she could have killed him. Heather: “But not us.” According to the wiki, Eleven opens the door of the empty Holloway house with her mind. The empty-house chapter tells that story.

At the hospital Mike and Eleven talk again in front of a vending machine. Shortly after, the monster born of Tom and Bruce traps Nancy. Eleven arrives, throws it through a window, and the wiki has the remains slip through a grate. It is a flesh monster.

The trap, then the leg

She searches for the possessed in the void and finds Billy again. A beach, a mother, then the steel mill: “Brimborn… Steelworks.” It was a trap. “You let us in.” The trap chapter tells the long story.

At the cabin a tendril grabs her leg. Lucas cuts it with the axe. She tears the monster's head open. At the supermarket Max cleans the wound: “I skateboard. Trust me.” She finds Dustin again through the void. At Starcourt she throws a car at Russian soldiers. Dustin, to Robin: “She threw it with her mind.” She collapses. The wound pulses. The cabin and the store detail the chase.

July 4, then October

Jonathan takes a knife: “This is gonna hurt like hell.” She screams for him to stop, then: “I can do it.” She tears the fragment out with her mind and throws it. Hopper, arriving with Joyce and Murray, crushes it. Before the base: “My battery's low, but…” “It will recharge.” Hopper: “I know it will, kid.” “But right now, I need you safe.”

In the parking lot Billy has sabotaged their car. They need the cable from the one she threw earlier. She tries to move it. Nothing moves. Mike: “Physics.” Billy takes her to the monster. She gives him back the wave of “seven feet”, the hat with a blue ribbon, the yellow sandals. He turns and dies. The end of season 3 explains the gesture.

Joyce comes back up without Hopper. For Eleven, this summer, he is dead. Three months later, in October, the powers have not returned. She tries. Nothing moves. Mike: “They'll come back.” They talk about Thanksgiving and Christmas. She reminds him of what he said to Max in the cabin, then: “I love you, too.”

Joyce hands her the speech: “It's the speech Hop wrote for you and Mike.” Two images: the cave, the door open three inches. The 1985 letter gives the text. She leaves Hawkins with the Byers. In a post-credits scene, in Russian: “Not the American.”
