Two trailers facing each other

In the spring of 1986, Max no longer lives in the Hargrove house. Neil left after Billy's death. He no longer pays. Susan smokes, drinks, and they have landed in a Forest Hills trailer. The park is at the edge of town, not in the center.

Across the way, number 53 is Eddie's and Wayne's. Eddie sleeps there, hides what he sells there, rehearses there. Wayne works nights. In the morning, the trailer is often empty of him. That geography, a lane and two doors, is enough for everything that follows.

Max sees the lane from her window. She, and not the police, is the one who sees the most visible cheerleader in the high school come in with the boy everyone takes for a dealer. She finds it strange. She does not yet have a reason to be afraid.

The club T-shirt, Eddie's, the boy the town accuses because he lives in the park.

Chrissy, the living room, the ceiling

On the evening of March 21, Chrissy wants what Eddie does not have in the living room. He goes to get it in the bedroom. She stays alone. Vecna takes her there, standing, between the couch and the table. The lights jump. Eddie comes back, shakes her, does not wake her.

She rises. He steps back. The body goes to the ceiling. The bones give way one after another. The eyes come out. Eddie screams and runs. He does not stay to explain. The trailer, for its part, keeps the body on the floor, once the levitation is over.

Max heard the scream. She saw Eddie leave alone. The next day, she tells Dustin. Dustin, a friend of Eddie's, does not believe her. The park then becomes a crime scene and a misunderstanding: the witness lives across the way, and no one wants her account.

Wayne, the police, Fred in the woods

Wayne comes home in the morning. He finds Chrissy. He calls the police. Chief Powell arrives with Callahan and Daniels. The Weekly Streak sends Nancy and Fred. They are allowed to come close. Nancy questions Wayne. Fred walks off.

Vecna shows Fred something while he wanders. He dies just outside the woods, on the road where his accident happened, not in a trailer. Two days in a row therefore produce two deaths and two settings: the living room of number 53, and the road beyond the trees.

Max crosses the lane while the tape goes up. She sees the twisted body on the floor. An officer catches her and sends her home. She has now seen what she had only heard. The park is no longer cheap housing. It is the first place of the murders.

The ceiling as a passage

Chrissy's death opens a gate at the spot where the body hit the ceiling. It is not the gate of the 1983 lab. It is a new tear, in a rented trailer, visible only when you know to look up.

Later, Eddie and the others use it to pass to the other side, and to come back. Number 53 has a double, on the other side, with the same furniture and not the same rules. The mattress, the guitar, the split ceiling: the passage is domestic.

When the fourth gate opens and the four cracks meet, the trailer splits in two. The park does not survive the end of spring intact. The lane Max watched from her window becomes a cut through Hawkins.

Eddie, to put together, tenant of number 53 with his uncle Wayne.

Two residents, two roles

Eddie did not kill Chrissy. He ran, and the town decides anyway that the boy from the park, the one who plays a role-playing game and who sells weed, is the murderer. Forest Hills supplies the trailer, therefore the motive. The setting makes the suspect.

Max, on the other side of the lane, is the next target. She saw the first death. She already carries the grief for Billy, the break with Lucas, the sessions with the counselor. Vecna does not need to go far to find her: she lives in the park where he started.

Wayne, for his part, is not an extra. He is the one who comes home, who finds, who talks to Nancy. The trailer is his as much as Eddie's. When the town accuses his nephew, he remains the address where someone still sleeps.

Why the show sets the murders here

A trailer park says the money, Neil's leaving, Eddie's place in a town that leaves him no other. The show could have killed Chrissy in a house downtown. It chooses number 53, across from Max, so that the witness and the suspect are neighbors.

The ceiling counts more than the lawn. The tear is in a living room that is too small, above a couch. Hawkins learns that the evil no longer needs the lab. It needs a room, a person alone, and a roof.

Forest Hills remains the starting point of the fourth season: a lane, two doors, a body, a crack. All the rest, the lake, the road, the Creel house, starts from this address.

The park also has a life of neighbors. Wayne works nights: in the morning, the trailer looks empty, and it is coming home that he finds Chrissy. Max, from her window, sees who comes in and who goes out. Later, when the town has to be left without getting arrested, the group leaves with a neighbor's RV. The address still serves for sleeping, for fleeing, for passing to the other side. The witness, the suspect, and the uncle live within earshot. This is not a setting that could be placed somewhere else. Max does not need to cross the town to see the body: she crosses the lane, and an officer sends her home.

Max, to put together: her window looks onto the lane, and she saw who came in.
