Who is Erica Sinclair?
Erica appears in 1984 as a kid under ten who mocks her brother over the walkie-talkie and demands to be paid in ice cream for the slightest favor. A year later, she is the key to an operation against the Soviet Union. The show has never grown a character so fast, and nobody complained.
She is the younger daughter of Charles and Sue Sinclair, Lucas's little sister, and the only person in Hawkins Lucas has never managed to impress. She has a head for business, a head for comebacks, and a sense of her own worth the adults on the show never reach. When Dustin, Steve, and Robin need someone small enough to go through a duct, she negotiates ice cream for life before she accepts.
Under the big mouth, Erica is a player: of Dungeons & Dragons, which she discovers with Will's manuals, then at the Hellfire Club, where Eddie welcomes her without discussion. She is the only child on the show who has never been afraid, and the show finally gives her credit.
You have to measure what season 3 asks of her. Dustin, Steve, and Robin are stuck in front of a door that only a child can open from the inside, and the only child available is a kid hanging around the Scoops Ahoy counter to eat samples. When the party gathers at the Sinclairs', she watches Max, the new girl, and gives her opinion without being asked. 1985Season 3: Starcourt
Dustin, Steve, and Robin have found a door in the mall, but the duct that leads there is too narrow. Erica, who spends her days demanding free samples at Scoops Ahoy, agrees to crawl through it in exchange for ice cream for life. She opens the door from the inside, and finds herself locked in with the other three in an elevator that descends toward a Soviet base. She gets through the base, the interrogation, the escape, and the battle of July 4. After that, Will gives her his role-playing manuals.
1986Season 4: the Hellfire Club
Lucas chose basketball, and the Hellfire Club game needs a player. Erica shows up, calls herself Lady Applejack, and wins the campaign. When the town turns against Eddie, she is part of the group that investigates, watches the gates with a walkie-talkie, and serves as a relay between the teams on the night of the assault on Vecna.
1987Season 5: the quarantine
Under the military occupation, Erica helps the Turnbow family, whose son Derek is Henry's target, and takes part in the defense of Hawkins. In the May 1989 epilogue, it is she who helps Dustin write the valedictorian speech he dedicates to Eddie. Always with her opinion, always right, and always the last to speak.
