The rooftop solo and the graduation speech have their own articles. Here, the uncle.
Wayne Munson is the uncle who opens the trailer door. He gives Nancy a name, receives a guitar pick from Dustin, and stays on the side of the living when the town has already passed judgment. He does not play guitar. He keeps what is handed back to him.

Who is Wayne Munson
Wayne Munson lives in the trailer at Forest Hills trailer park, in Hawkins. He is Eddie Munson's uncle, and it is at his place that the rumor comes knocking first, because that is where a girl died. The show does not write him a detailed job, or a kitchen speech. It gives him a door, a name to pass on, and later a hand to take a guitar pick.
He is not in the Hellfire Club. He is not on the roof. He is the adult of the trailer: the one Nancy and Fred find when they follow the trail back, and the one Dustin Henderson finds when he has only one object left to return. Two scenes, in spring 1986, make almost the whole character. The last season adds a third, without giving him any more lines.

The name he gives
Episode 2 of Season 4 sends Nancy Wheeler and Fred Benson to the trailer park. Wayne Munson gives them a name: Victor Creel, a man committed for killing his family in 1959 and for taking their eyes. Chrissy Cunningham died the same way. Wayne does not explain the mechanism. He recognizes a way of killing, and he ties it to a story the town filed away in an asylum.
That name is the seed of Nancy's investigation. It will lead further, to Pennhurst, in Indiana. Wayne, for his part, does not make the trip. He spoke from the trailer. The chapter leaves him there. Fred Benson will not come back from that night. The link between the uncle and the reporter stops at that exchange: a park, a name, eyes, 1959.
1959 is not his storyVictor Creel is committed that year. Wayne only passes the memory on. The asylum, the father, the house, are told elsewhere. The uncle does not set foot there in this chapter.
The guitar pick, two days later
The ninth episode of Season 4 sets its epilogue two days later. Part of the town evacuates. Others set up an aid camp at the high school. Nancy, Robin, Steve, and Dustin hand out blankets there. Dustin finds Wayne there and returns his nephew's guitar pick. The gesture is small. It says the body was not abandoned without an object that came back to the side of the living.
Dustin also tells him the truth the town refuses: his nephew died a hero. The line does not become a speech. It stands between a teenager and an uncle, in the middle of the blankets. For Hawkins, Eddie remains a murderer on the run. The two versions coexist. Wayne heard Dustin. The town did not hear Wayne.
What he can believe
The show does not show him in the Upside Down, and it does not have him visit a gate. What he knows, at the end of that spring, fits in what he was told at the camp: a death, a word, a guitar pick. Giving him a parallel investigation, or the calm certainty of someone who would have understood everything before everyone else, would mean writing a scene that does not exist.
His role is harder, and simpler. He lives in the trailer where the first dead girl fell. He gave the only useful name. He then receives a teenager's partial correction, while the rest of Hawkins keeps the murderer version. He has no microphone. He has no proof to hold up on the TV news. He has a guitar pick.

The grave, in the last season
The last season does not turn him into a speaker. It places him near a stained grave. Eddie has been dead since spring 1986. The town did not revise its judgment on its own. Wayne keeps watch. The Hellfire Club, in its chart for the last season, notes it this way: the grave is stained, the uncle keeps watch. Gareth and Jeff, for their part, are absent. The uncle is not.
The nephew's name will be spoken later in front of the high school, by Dustin, at graduation. That speech is not Wayne's voice. Taking it up here would steal another scene. The uncle already had his, at the camp, in a low voice. The grave says what the ceremony does not repair: someone keeps watching over a dead man the town has dirtied.
What he lets you see of the town
Wayne Munson is there to measure Hawkins. A town able to hear an uncle give Victor Creel's name, then go on treating the nephew as a killer, is a town that chooses the simplest rumor. The character does not need a gift to show that. He needs to be believed by two teenagers, Nancy then Dustin, and by almost no one else.
You leave him on these three gestures. He speaks. He receives. He keeps watch. No guitar, no die, no last solo. The uncle from Forest Hills trailer park is the reminder that grief has an address: a trailer, a camp of blankets, a grave. The rest of spring 1986 is told from the party. He stays on the doorstep.
The trailer is also the place where Chrissy Cunningham died. When Nancy and Fred arrive, they are not questioning a neighbor at random: they are at the door of the man who is housing the suspect, in the park the whole town is pointing at. Wayne does not defend himself with a spectacular alibi. He gives a precedent, Victor Creel, 1959, the eyes. It is very little, and it is enormous: without that name, Nancy's investigation has no thread to the asylum. He does not go with her. The thread leaves without him. Two days after the nephew's death, the camp at the high school is not a courtroom. Blankets are handed out there. Dustin returns the guitar pick and says that this death is a hero's. Wayne can believe him. Hawkins, around them, goes on with the other story, the one about the murderer on the run. Nothing, in these shots, shows the uncle going off to convince the crowd. The last season finds him in the same moral place: near the stained grave, keeping watch. The name spoken in front of the high school, later, will be the one Dustin carries out loud. Wayne heard it earlier, very quietly.

TakeawayThe uncle, at Forest Hills trailer park. He gives Victor Creel's name, set in 1959 in the story he passes on. Dustin returns the guitar pick and tells him of the hero's death. The town still accuses. In the last season, Wayne keeps watch over the grave.
